My Father Said: A Podcast Journey through Faith, Family, and Finance

In 1995, I ventured into the Financial Services industry. I thought it would help us solve the all too common problem of stretching paychecks to cover household expenses. Amidst this struggle, I discovered a deeper issue. I had allowed financial responsibilities and the pursuit of financial success to often overshadow life's true purpose. In my pursuit of wealth, I had inadvertently sidelined my faith, relegating Christ to a secondary role. My choices and actions had placed my family the wrong path. Recognizing this imbalance, I resolved to align my priorities with God's purpose, acknowledging my responsibility, not just as provider, but as spiritual leader of my family.

As a Financial Advisor, I quickly discovered my self-inflicted blindness wasn’t unique to me, but is also the root of why many Christians and non-Christians alike live such unfruitful lives. Many fall into the trap of chasing tomorrow at the expense of living today. We get lost in the pursuit of “financial security” without defining it. As a result, when we reach the end of our days, we discover we never really lived at all. So we spend countless, aimless, wasted moments pursuing money at the expense of pursuing Jesus Christ.

Having walked this path, I thought it beneficial to create a forum to discuss the balance between pursuing and serving our Lord while simultaneously being financially responsible.

This idea of financial burdens and goals getting in the way of faith, along with the insight provided by my son, Ryan, led to the creation of our Podcast called "My Father Said." On it,  the father/son duo (Robert and Ryan Templeton) from The Templeton Group embark on a journey of self-discovery and shared growth. Unlike conventional financial advice podcasts, "My Father Said" offers listeners an intimate glimpse into their lives through personal anecdotes and heartfelt conversations.

I, Robert, the father in this father/son duo, am a seasoned Certified Kingdom Advisor and Pastor, and bring decades of investment management experience to the table. With a deep commitment to responsible stewardship, I also seek to blend wisdom with wit into financial planning and wealth preservation. On occasion, I might even bring in my ‘soap box’ to the delight of most listeners.

My son, Ryan, is a Certified Financial Planner. He complements his father’s expertise, bringing youthful energy to the podcast with unwavering faith, sincerity and humor. Navigating adulthood, Ryan's reflections resonate with listeners of all ages, offering a fresh perspective on faith, family, and personal growth.

"My Father Said" podcast seeks to bridge generational gaps, fostering meaningful connections through authenticity and vulnerability. What sets "My Father Said" apart is its holistic approach to life's complexities, spirituality, familial values, and financial wisdom intertwined into one cohesive narrative. Each episode explores the interconnectedness of faith, family, and finance, offering practical advice alongside profound reflections about living a life of purpose.
