Letter From the Editor: Fall 2017

Greetings!

This time of year takes me back to wonderful childhood memories; trips to the mountains, fun Halloween costumes and trick-or-treating, throwing the football around with my dad in the yard during game halftimes, school events, Christmas concerts, and holiday meals around the table with family and friends. Now, all grown up, I still look forward to this wonderful time of year.

The morning chill in the air either puts pep in my step, or it causes me to hunker down with a blanket and a good book. I love the colorful display of the leaves on the ground, and I still anticipate our annual trip to the mountains of North Carolina; browsing through quaint little shops (especially the Christmas ones), listening to waterfalls and streams, and of course, searching for that perfect cup of coffee.

What in this season puts a smile on your face? Could it be pumpkin everything or salted caramel lattes? Football weekends? Roasting marshmallows around the fire pit? Thanksgiving? Christmas? Whatever brings you joy, I hope Living Real Magazine makes the list.

As you peruse the carefully crafted pages, my prayer is you’ll find someone you can identify with. Walking by faith is not easy, and that’s why Living Real Magazine exists. We want to come alongside you to encourage you and cheer you on to stay the course, and to help you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and His Word (Hebrews 12:1-2).

A bright spot in the early morning hours shines through Mary King, a WIS-TV news anchor. Through an interview with Kelly Coakley, you’ll discover how Mary’s firm and grounded faith in Jesus helps her in reporting the news every day.

Debbi King, a financial advisor, shares how poor life choices landed her in a place of despair, and thinking there was no hope. Find out how, at her lowest point, she was catapulted into the joyful presence of God, and how He gave her a future and a hope beyond her wildest imagination.

A registered nurse, Selena Lollar, speaks of how one tough patient taught her how all assignments are God-ordained. You’ll also take a walk through an 18th century Quaker cemetery with Pam Anderson as she reflects on the impact of those who’ve gone before us.

Do you like tiny things? Susan Mikell does. Check out how her love for all things small has evolved into an opportunity every year to serve Christ in a big way.

Going Deeper with Pastor Brett Marlowe challenges us to think about our greatest gain, and yours truly has written an article, “The Heavens Declare…Look Up.” Through the lens of the Total Eclipse Event, God gave me an eternal perspective.

Then there’s that funny lady, Cherrie Nettles, who’ll make you laugh out loud, while KatieEats gives sound advice about snacking. You’ll also be introduced to Dream Riders through Cindy Payne, and how they are bringing freedom to some very special people.

Our God is alive and well! For those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, He’s working all things together for His glory and our good (Romans 8:28). As always, we’d love to hear from you. Share your thoughts at livingrealmag.com, or give us a review on our Facebook page @livingrealmagazine.
