Letter from the Editor: Fall 2024

Hello Friends,

What an exciting time to be alive! Yes, for real. For followers of Jesus Christ, walking by faith, trusting in the Lord our God, and leaning into the hope of our calling, we have nothing to be afraid of in this world. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me (Psalm 118:6-7 ESV).

I, along with millions of other Christians, believe we’re witnessing God’s final chapter of history unfold. If we aren’t examining life and world events through a biblical lens, we’re missing God’s explicit warnings about the future and are oblivious to prophecies being fulfilled at rapid speed. Ordained before the foundation of the earth, you and I were created in our mother’s womb to live right now on God’s timeline of history, with significant purpose for His glory. And that’s exciting!

Along with God ordaining our days, we must not be silent or ignorant about God or the godless culture we live in. For such a time as this, we are called to expose the dark with the light of Christ but not participate in the fruitless acts of evil. (Ephesians 5:6-13) We cannot sit idly by and watch the enemy of our souls undermine what God has ordained. The land that I love was founded on Judeo-Christian principles and that’s what has made her unique, blessed, and a strong leader among nations for 248 years. But a major cultural shift has our country at a tipping point.

Though America is not Israel, the experiences of our unique nation follow the same spiritual patterns as God’s chosen people. When Israel honored God as a nation, He blessed her. When they dishonored Him, He withheld blessings from her. If Israel heeded His warnings when they sinned, the nation was spared judgement. If not, judgement fell.

America appears to be ignoring God’s warnings. But, even if judgement is falling, the Church must remain faithful; diligent in spreading the gospel and living out the confident hope we have in Christ Jesus, infused with a vibrant, ever-growing faith. We must not be afraid.

Christian persecution has ramped up around the world, and it’s happening in America. When an 82-year-old woman can be arrested and sentenced to two years for praying outside an abortion clinic, persecution is here. When the government shuts the church doors but allows liquor stores to remain open, persecution is here. When God’s moral law cannot be tolerated in our educational institutions but gender confusion can be celebrated, persecution is here. As our Christian brothers and sisters in Ukraine are being persecuted, God’s people in America better be ready to pay the ultimate price. If judgement has not already ensued, and America can be spared, it will be through the cry of God’s people (2 Chronicles 7:14). If we lose this land of the free and home of the brave, it will be because we dismissed God and ignored His warnings.

How should we respond? In humility, repent and turn from our wicked ways. Abide in Christ. Pray for wisdom and discernment. Act on His Word, and share the gospel like never before. Be engaged in a doctrinally sound church. One that’s not afraid of speaking the Truth in love and calls for the repentance of sin. And please, vote your conscience. Political leaders set policy and policy drives direction. Christians must vote for candidates whose policies align most with the Word of God.

In his book, We Will Not Be Silenced, Erwin Lutzer encourages us with these words: "I want to inspire us to have the courage to walk toward the fire and not run away from the flames. God has brought us to this cultural moment, and our future cannot be taken for granted. As has been said, 'in a time of universal deception, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.'"

Come what may. We will not fear. The Lord is on our side.
