Letter From the Editor: Fall 2022

The chill in the air reminds us we’re in a season of change. Moving from summer to fall and fall to winter are seasonal changes I get excited about. Swapping out sandals for boots, t-shirts for sweatshirts, and cold coffee for hot? Oh yeah.
As Christians, we also encounter spiritual seasons of change. Some are exciting; some are extremely difficult. Our salvation journey ebbs and flows, teaching us along the way how to lean on Jesus and trust Him more. Becoming Christ-like is not easy, and according to 1 Corinthians 2: 12-16, only the Spirit-minded person can understand and evaluate life through the eyes of Christ.

What Looms In Between? ~ Strengthening the Warp of Life

I’m finding that most of life is lived on the warp — on the in-between threads that no one sees. But these are the moments that a life is crafted upon. The in-between loads of laundry, the morning routines, the conversations over sticky tables; these are the times when words of life are spoken into the hearts we love, when memories are made, when inner voices are established. And so often these in-betweens are the things we rush through.

Afghanistan, Real-Life Hunger Games

Afghanistan may not be in the headlines, but it remains the site of a real-life Hunger Games for our friends and allies trapped under Taliban rule. Hunted, many move from house to house to avoid detection. With their employers gone, they struggle to keep their families fed and sheltered. Those who have relatives outside the country survive on any remittances they’re able to provide. To work—if a job could be found—they would have to come out of hiding, an extraordinary risk.

Let Your Light Shine

As beautiful as our world may be and as blessed as we all are, there is no doubt we are living in a godless world. God’s Word affirms it, and the struggle for every born-again believer is real. How can we possibly be “salt and light” given the monumental darkness we face?  How can we be all that Christ Jesus calls us to be when faced with such opposition and so many relentless attacks from Satan?  How can we be “in” this world but not “of” this world?
