Guardrails

The views in the mountains are always beautiful from the passenger seat. Growing up in the South Carolina Upstate, this was always my thought as a child.

Every so often, our family or church group would head up the road into western North Carolina where the views were always spectacular with majestic mountains, green gorges, and rolling rivers.

Eat Fat and Be Healthy

Did you know that not all fats are created equal? Over 20 years ago, I believed any fat would make me fat, so I avoided all fats when possible. But I was oh so wrong! Most of us are familiar with trans fatty acids and saturated fats, but not enough of us know about the essential fatty acids. These are the awesome fats necessary for our well-bein...

How To Remain Calm And Carry On

In A World Filled With Chaos, Pain, And Vast Uncertainty, Is It Any Wonder So Many People Are Anxious? I work as a family counselor, and I am very aware that many who suffer from anxiety and depression truly need a physician’s intervention. Due to Covid-19, I moved back home to embrace a new normal. Class lectures turned into pre-recorded sessions on my laptop, two-hour classroom exams turned into online assessments, and face-to-face...

My Wicked Stepmother

Forgiveness Can Be a Process  I had barely started school when a charming woman waltzed into my father’s life. It wasn’t long after that she also entered mine as my stepmother. My memories of her are grisly.  I remember feeling startled and bewildered when she burst into my room and hurled my clothes onto the floor, the ones she had grudgingly f...
